By Cindy Gordon, Selective Visibility Strategist and Business Mentor
A few months ago, I got invited to speak inside someone else’s mastermind. It was a mastermind for dietitians and women in the wellness and health space. The woman who runs it, I had actually met her in a sales psychology program we were both part of, and she asked me to come speak to her group.
I want to talk about what I taught that room, because it turned into something much bigger than a guest talk.
What did I actually teach in that mastermind?
I virtually walked into that room and gave a talk called Be the Answer. The whole idea was simple. Somewhere right now, someone is searching for exactly what you do in your business, whether it’s on Google, Instagram, in ChatGPT, or just asking a friend who they’d hire. In that moment, you either are the answer they find, or you’re not.
Most businesses are not. Not because they aren’t good at what they do, but because their message is vague, their content sounds like everyone else out there, and when someone actually goes looking, there’s nothing clear enough to point to. I taught that room how to become the answer: message clarity first, so people actually understand what you do, then findability, so you show up in the places people are searching. That’s the whole thing. It’s not complicated, it’s just rarely being done on purpose.
What happened after the talk?
One particular woman in that room was not a client of mine yet. She was just someone participating. After that session, she sent me a DM, wanting to talk through what I’d covered a little further, specifically her Instagram bio. She had a vague sense that what she was saying wasn’t really landing with her ideal client. Not a full-on crisis, just a nagging feeling that something was off.
So I met with her, and we sat down and went through it. What I want you to hear about that conversation is I did not tell her to be something she’s not. I helped her see parts of her coaching that were already uniquely hers, and I told her to stop hiding those parts and start leading with them.
What did she say afterward?
She said something afterward that I think a lot about. She said nothing beats having fresh eyes on your work from someone who isn’t emotionally tied to the outcome. You’re often too close to your own business to clearly see it. Every one of us is that. It’s not a flaw, it’s just physics.
What actually changed for her?
She told me that one conversation made her entire next quarter of marketing crystal clear. This wasn’t a whole rebrand. It wasn’t months of work. It was one honest look at what she was already saying, cleaned up and pointed at the right thing.
That’s what being the answer actually looks like in practice. It’s not necessarily about saying more. It’s about saying the true thing clearly enough so it lands.
Why did this become a full workshop?
What I did not expect is that speech would not leave me alone. I kept teaching pieces of it in client sessions, in DMs, in random conversations at events. Be the answer, be the answer, it just kept coming up, and it kept being the thing that actually moved people faster than anything else I teach.
So I’m turning it into something bigger: a live workshop this October, October 27th through the 29th, called Be the Answer. Three days, taking everything I taught in that room and diving much, much deeper. This isn’t a rebrand of something I already had. It came directly from watching that talk actually work, in real time, on a real business, in a way I couldn’t ignore.
How do I join Be the Answer?
If you want to be part of it, I’d love for you to join. It’s called Be the Answer, October 27th through the 29th. Link is in the show notes if you want to grab your spot.
What should I do this week, even before the workshop?
Think about the last time you searched for something you needed, a service, a product, someone to hire. What made you pick the one you did? Chances are it wasn’t the flashiest option. It was the one that was clearest about what they did and who it was for.
That’s being the answer, and it’s available to you right now, not just in October. Somewhere right now, someone is searching for exactly what you do. Be the answer.
Prefer to listen?
Being the answer means that when someone is actively searching for what you do, whether on Google, social media, in an AI tool, or by asking a friend, your business is the clear, findable result they land on. It requires two things working together: a message clear enough that people immediately understand what you do, and enough findability that you actually show up in the places people are searching.
Being too close to your own business to see its messaging clearly is not a personal shortcoming, it happens to virtually every business owner. When you live inside your own offer every day, it becomes difficult to notice what is actually landing with a new or unfamiliar audience. An outside perspective from someone who isn’t emotionally invested in the outcome can often see clarity gaps that are invisible from the inside.
Not usually. Messaging that isn’t landing often doesn’t need to be replaced, it needs to be clarified. In many cases, the core message a business owner is already saying is already strong, it just needs to be cleaned up and pointed more precisely at the right audience, rather than rebuilt entirely from scratch.
Be the Answer is a live 3-day workshop hosted by Cindy Gordon, running October 27th through the 29th. It expands on a talk Cindy originally gave as a guest speaker in another mastermind, going much deeper into how to build message clarity and findability so your business becomes the clear answer when your ideal client goes searching.
